Dude, you should try wikipedia (or just go back) instead

Why are you even here? FightPerniciousSwarm 23:28, 1 January 2008 (EST)

Well, they looked like they could use some help. Sue me. --AngryCommunist 23:34, 1 January 2008 (EST)

I edited your userpage...

...to close a <div> tag that you left open, which messed with the formatting of your page. Pardon the intrusion into your userpage, but I suppose you don't mind, as you don't believe in private property! :P ThomasB 13:42, 2 January 2008 (EST)

That's fine, thanks! --AngryCommunist 14:16, 2 January 2008 (EST)
That "private property" line as an excuse for altering his user page made me laugh! Philip J. Rayment 17:31, 2 January 2008 (EST)
I found it amusing as well :). --AngryCommunist 17:39, 2 January 2008 (EST)
I try. :D ThomasB 18:29, 2 January 2008 (EST)

Contest

Angycommunist - stop trying to get ahead in the contest - we have to do points before we do team pages and everything - and those team pages aren't even the way we do team pages (and why are you putting Bethany down as a captain?).--IDuan 16:57, 9 January 2008 (EST)

Ah, sorry.
Because she's, you know, listed? --AngryCommunist 16:59, 9 January 2008 (EST)
See that's the thing - you haven't done a contest before so you don't know how it's set up. A judge is not a captain--IDuan 17:00, 9 January 2008 (EST)
Oh, gosh, I'm blind. I'm sorry, I'm trying to cram edits into what time I have available. --AngryCommunist 17:02, 9 January 2008 (EST)
Alright no problem - just try to be a bit more careful, especially when you're in unchartered territory.--IDuan 17:04, 9 January 2008 (EST)
Thanks. --AngryCommunist 17:05, 9 January 2008 (EST)

Your name

"AngryCommunist", can't we improve on your name a bit? If you give me another name, then I can transfer all your edits and login to the new name. But do not establish the new name as an account before I do the transfer. The transfer does that for you.--Aschlafly 18:19, 9 January 2008 (EST)

You could have a cool LotR name like me. --...RingWraith 18:22, 9 January 2008 (EST)
Okay, I'll think about what I would like to have. I don't want to cause any offense. --AngryCommunist 21:45, 9 January 2008 (EST)
Okay, I devised one: MakeTomorrow. Tolerable? --AngryCommunist 20:58, 10 January 2008 (EST)

Nice. In your honor, I donated 340 grains of rice. --Ed Poor Talk 21:25, 11 January 2008 (EST)

Thanks. I donated 3000 yesterday, so I feel pretty good about it. Hit level 48, too. --MakeTomorrow 21:36, 11 January 2008 (EST)
Although, I must admit, the, somewhat disturbingly, remarkable incoherence of the above comment rather fails to belie it. --MakeTomorrow 21:45, 11 January 2008 (EST)
I think they should take away grains if you get it wrong. Or maybe I'm not playing for the right reason? HelpJazz 21:48, 11 January 2008 (EST)
Every time you view a page, they generate the revenue used to buy the rice, so there's really no way they can just dump it. And yes, the main purpose is to earn rice :). BTW, what score did you obtain? --MakeTomorrow 21:56, 11 January 2008 (EST)
No I get how it works, it was just a joke. I think I played till 300 today. HelpJazz 22:04, 11 January 2008 (EST)
Ah. I'm sorry, I meant level. My error. --MakeTomorrow 22:51, 11 January 2008 (EST)
Errr... 40? I wasn't watching that. Now I have to play it again to see what level I am. HelpJazz 23:01, 11 January 2008 (EST)

Personal remarks

Insults like this are not permitted. Do not respond to sarcasm or personal remarks with stronger ones. Ignore it, or ask an admin to intervene. --Ed Poor Talk 10:27, 12 January 2008 (EST)

Sorry. To tell the truth, I have serious doubts as to whether or not his comments bear any resemblance to his actual opinions (read: parody), however, I'm disinclined to make any formal accusations at this point. --MakeTomorrow 10:46, 12 January 2008 (EST)

Contest

Hey, so the draft will not actually finish until Sunday, but the contest will still start tonight at 12a.m., so all that means is some of you will be getting points without knowing what team you're on. Remember to keep track of your points well, at a page like User:MakeTomorrow/Contest4.--IDuan 21:08, 12 January 2008 (EST)

Thanks. I might get off to a slow start — I have a number of essays that urgently need to be produced — but I'll catch up rapidly. --MakeTomorrow 21:11, 12 January 2008 (EST)
Give yourself a pat on the back (I can't reach!) Well done and thanks for your efforts :) File:User Fox.png Fox (talk|contribs) 04:39, 21 January 2008 (EST)

Um

I see you fixed that tag in my talk page. Um... thanks, I guess? Feebasfactor 22:21, 12 January 2008 (EST)

Oh, ok! I did notice that occasionally but mostly just ignored it - thanks for finding/fixing it for me :) Feebasfactor 23:06, 23 January 2008 (EST)

Explain

I'll explain to you why that revert was done through an email--IDuan 17:08, 25 January 2008 (EST)

Use the talk page before reverting, please. --User:Joaquín Martínez, talk 17:11, 25 January 2008 (EST)

Lol

Haha, you yourself put the wrong url on slash dot. [1]--IDuan 20:00, 2 February 2008 (EST)

Noooooooo! --MakeTomorrow 20:35, 2 February 2008 (EST)

Contest 5

Hey MakeTomorrow, as you were a participant in the last contest I'm just giving you the heads up that the draft of the point system for contest 5 has been written, and we're using the talk page as a forum for any notes/complaints that any users may have. Thanks,--IDuan 20:17, 2 February 2008 (EST)

:P

Hi! Sorry, I'm really hyper! :P ~BCSTalk2ME 13:21, 11 February 2008 (EST)

No problem, same here :). --MakeTomorrow 13:23, 11 February 2008 (EST)
Sorry, the keyboard is addictive to me. 'cause I write books a lot. :P ~BCSTalk2ME 13:25, 11 February 2008 (EST)

Communism

Cute--your removal of nearly all the content of that page. Next time, if you want to propose to remove that much content, put a note on the Talk page. Don't scrap things unilaterally--not unless you want to get blocked.--TerryHTalk 14:02, 11 February 2008 (EST)

MediaWiki

We did reinstall MediaWiki--and in fact we wiped the account completely and tried to build a MediaWiki environment from scratch. And still it blew up. Whereupon our hosts declared that they would host us on a dedicated server, or not at all. This attitude has caused us to research alternate hosts. But we'll take their dedicated server as soon as they can build it--because either their server remains compromised by a trojan, or else they installed PHP5 on top of PHP4 and the two will not "make nice" to one another. (I suspect the latter. I literally had to invoke index.php5 directly in order to get MediaWiki to install at all.)

In order to make sure that our own site was not at fault, I personally created a LAMP stack on my own machine, using PHP 5.1.6, Apache 2.0, and MySQL 5.0.27. I had no problems with it other than these:

  1. The "article path" of $Wikidomain/$1 did not work. It had to be $Wikidomain/index.php?title=$1. That would have to be the URL that an outsider would have to specify--and people are so used to specifying $Wikidomain/$1 that they'll balk at having to include "index.php?title=" in the URL.
  2. Attempts to install a "pool wiki" containing images usable on multiple wikis in multiple languages resulted in this error message:
Error creating thumbnail: Unable to create destination directory.

Other than that, we don't use "include" statements to run extensions. We use "require-once."--TerryHTalk 10:36, 16 February 2008 (EST)
