VMT tax is an abbreviation for Vehicle Miles Traveled. In liberal circles, there is a never ending need to spend more tax dollars and to create more tax revenue. In March, the Congressional Budget Office report supported the idea of taxing drivers based on miles driven. A draft plan from the administration's Transportation Opportunities Act that would require the study and implementation of a plan to tax automobile drivers. This project is allocated $300 million until 2017. The VMT tax could be tracked by installing electronic equipment on each car to determine how many miles were driven; payment could take place electronically at filling stations, based on how many miles driven.
