With Fire and Sword (Polish: Ogniem i mieczem) is a book written by nationalist Polish author Henryk Sienkiewicz. It was published in 1884. It is a historical novel about the Ukrainian Kozak uprising against Poland. The book is extremely popular in Poland, but it is not popular in the US because of the lack of decent translations. It was part of his Nobel Prize award in 1905. The story itself is fictional, but the events and characters are historical. It is controversial due to its extreme negative portrayal of the Kozaks. It was made into a movie in 1999. The movie was accepted as more accurate by most Ukrainian and Polish people, yet there were occasional reports of sporadic clashes between nationalists on both sides.
