World History Homework Five Answers - Student 1
3. Charles Martel, the “Hammer”, was the determined Christian who led the Germanic peoples to a decisive victory against the Muslims. If not for this pivotal Battle of Tours in 732, all of Europe might have become Muslim. He was also the ruler of Gaul, now France, from 719-741, and the rest of his descendants formed the Carolingian dynasty that ruled the Franks from 751 all the way to 987.
5. Islam’s religious beliefs are comprised in the “Five Pillars of Islam.” The first is submission to the one god, Allah, and accepting Muhammad as the god’s messenger. When one wishes to convert to Islam, he is required to say this set statement called the shahadah and believe in it. The second is prayer to Allah five times a day. This sala, the Islamic prayer, is performed before dawn, at noon, in the afternoon, after sunset, and in the evening, facing Mecca. The last three are fasting, almsgiving, and the Haji, or pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in the Muslim’s lifetime.
