World History Homework Five

Leonard G

1.) The Five Pillars of Islam are the moral commands of Islam. These commands are to submit to Allah, pray five times a day while facing Mecca, fast for the entire month of Ramadan, give alms to the poor, and make at least one pilgrimage to Mecca in a lifetime.

Good, except note that the fast is only from sunrise to sunset. Still difficult, but not continuous.

2.) The difference between Islam and Christianity is that Christianity has a God that is all about love. Islam has a god that is completely about submission, and mentions nothing about love. My God teaches me to love my friends as well as my enemies. Most Muslims hate their enemies and sentence most of them to death! When comparing these two religions, love is the biggest difference between them.

Good point about how Christianity emphasizes loving God and even one's enemies. Your exclamation is overstated in its generalization, but your conclusion about the significance of love is on point.

3.) My favorite of the three was Charles Martel, also known as Charles the Hammer. He protected Christian Europe by destroying the Muslim invasion at the Battle of Tours.

Excellent, may use as a model.

4.) Chivalry was one of the best concepts created by feudalism in Western Europe. It has had a great impact on the world today and allows men and women to interact in a cooperative manner. Chivalry is a great way to show respect to your elders and members of the opposite sex.

Superb.

5.) The difference between the Sunnis, who control Saudi Arabia, and the Shiites, who control most of Iran and Iraq, is their view on Islam. The Sunnis have a more relaxed view which is more popular to Muslims and the Shiites have a very radical view on Islam. Also, these two sects of religion could not even agree on a successor for Muhammad and had to choose two separate successors. The Sunnis chose members of the Umayyad clan while the Shiites chose Muhammad’s son-in-law, Ali.

Good explanation.

6.) The chart on Islamic population in countries shows that the United States has the lowest Islamic population. The rest of our population is mostly Christian. This proves why Islamic nations hate the United States so much. It’s because of our low Islamic population and our high Christian population.

Interesting analysis.

7.) The four major civilizations of early South America were the Teotihuacan (A.D. 100-900), a small civilization located in modern day Mexico that worshiped gods of the sun and the moon; the Maya (A.D. 300-900), one of the larger South American civilization located in Central America that and were known for their high intelligence; the Toltec (A.D. 900-1200), a civilization located in northern Mexico who lived by the sword; and the Aztec (A.D. 1200-1521), a very warlike civilization that built a magnificent city called Tenochtitlan.

Excellent.
70/70. Congratulations!
