Wormwood is the name of the star, from the Book of Revelation. Wormwood is a translation of the Greek abdinthos and is a stupefying and often lethal plant product[1]. Wormwood is also an ingredient in the alcoholic spirit absinthe.

The London open space called Wormwood Scrubs (and the prison of the same name) does not derive its name from wormwood, but is a corruption of Wormholt, 'the wood of the snakes' (worm: snake; holt: wood).
