The company was formed in 1935 by the merger of Twentieth Century Pictures (founded 1933) and the Fox Film Corporation (founded 1915).

In 2009, it released Delgo on DVD and BluRay. In 2012, it as well as four other major Hollywood studios, including The Walt Disney Company and DreamWorks Animation, was placed under investigation by the SEC for allegedly making illegal payments to Chinese officials for filming rights.[1][2]
