Some of the most fascinating and influential fictional characters have been British.

British heroes tend to be highly intelligent, well educated but flawed.

James Bond. A super spy with a strong sense of patriotism.

Sherlock Holmes. A logical and highly intelligent detective. Specialises in deductive reasoning. One of most famous quotes is 'When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.' Has an addiction to heroin.

Simon Templar. A thief who works outside the law but targets the corrupt and immoral.

The Doctor. An alien humanoid who takes a special interest in Earth

Robin Hood. A heroic outlaw who 'steals from the rich and gives to the poor

Harry Potter, A wizard responsible for defeating Voldemort.

James 'Biggles' Bigglesworth. A WW1 fighter pilot and adventurer.

Jean-Luc Picard. Supposedly French in ancestry but very British in demeanour.

Alan Quartermain. An explorer and adventurer.

Jane Marple. A detective investigator.

Tarzan. An orphan boy raised by apes

Reginald Jeeves. The manservant of 'Bertie Wooster'.

Richard Sharpe. A soldier of the Napoleonic wars who rises through the ranks.

Phileas Fogg. An adventurer who travels around the world in 80 days.
