Bruce Stanley Kovner (born 1945 in Brooklyn, New York) is a businessman and Chairman of the neoconservative think tank American Enterprise Institute. His current net-worth is estimated to be around $2.5 billion. Bruce Kovner is described by his colleagues as a private person and an "introvert". Richard Perle described Bruce Kovner as “brilliant,” and “intellectually rigorous, balanced, and thoughtful.”
Bruce Kovner's family immigrated to the United States in the early 1900s from Tsarist Russia to escape from prosecution for their involvement in Communist groups.
Bruce Kovner studied political science at Harvard College starting in 1962, under the prominent conservative scholar Edward C. Banfield. However he never managed to finish his PhD thesis.
After leaving Harvard, Bruce Kovner took a job as writer and music critic of Commentary magazine, where he met Norman Podhoretz who described Bruce Kovner as "an intellectual". During this period, Bruce Kovner also took a part-time job as a cab driver. Around 1976, Bruce Kovner began studying commodities, and was hired as a trader for Commodities Corp. In 1983, Bruce Kovner started his own hedge fund trading business.
