Cambridge is a famous English university city in the county of Cambridgeshire. It is located north of London in the flat and marshy fens, and is surrounded by a number of smaller towns and villages.
Cambridge is best known for the University of Cambridge, one of Europe's few universities consistently around the top of the world rankings, and is strong in both arts and sciences. Founded at the start of the thirteenth century, it is Britain's second-oldest university after Oxford, and many of the buildings and attractions which make Cambridge such a popular tourist destination are part of the university and its colleges.
