Cardinal John O'Connor (1920-2000) served as the leader of the New York archdiocese of the Catholic Church from 1984 until his passing away in 2000. He was the leading American Catholic spokesman and withstood with courage and grace attacks by the homosexual movement that included even desecration of the Eucharist during a Mass. The cardinal co-authored a book with Ed Koch.
