A cashless society refers to states and nations which have removed the ability of the people to independently conduct transactions without some larger entity such as a bank, credit card company, government, or other knowing about it.

Seventh-day Adventists speculate that the move towards a cashless society constitutes the creep towards the formation of the image of the beast, citing Revelation 13:17 and pointing out the ability for centralized governments to instantly freeze bank accounts of individuals who do not comply with the mark of the beast. Adventists also note the exacerbation the coronavirus pandemic had in propelling the enactment of a cashless society, as written about in the media.[1]
