The Center for American Progress (CAP) is a liberal progressive political tax-exempt 501c activist group headquartered in Washington D.C.

The CAP says they are "dedicated to improving the lives of Americans through ideas and action". In reality, it's a secret "brain trust" within the Democratic National Committee and developed specifically to promote Democrat ideas and candidates. [1] According to their website, “expose the hollowness of conservative governing philosophy, and challenge the media to cover the issues that truly matter.” The liberal activist George Soros donated three million dollars in 2004 in an unsuccessful attempt to defeat the re-election of President George W. Bush. [2]

The Center for American Progress began as the American Majority Institute in 2002, a way to cope with the new funding restrictions of the McCain-Feingold Campaign Reform Act. In 2003, they had created the companion lobbying group Center for American Progress Action Fund. CAP has a powerful lobbying agenda, spending $700,000. so far in 2009. [3] A number of the CAP lobbyists have jobs in the Obama Administration. John Podesta, President and Chief Executive Officer of CAP is now director of the CIA. They've built infrastructure to construct a permanent campaign outside of actual campaigns.

The Center for American Progress participates in the Americans Against Escalation in Iraq coalition. [4] In addition, another liberal group Media Matters for America was jump-started by the Center for American Progress and with millions in dollars from wealthy liberals. [5] They push regulation of "free speech", the Center for American Progress published a report detailing how conservatives dominate talk radio. CAP employs 11 full-time bloggers who contribute to two liberal Web sites, ThinkProgress and the Wonk Room; others prepare daily feeds for radio stations. CAP has 180 staffers and a $27 million budget. [6] A map of Center for American Progress relationships found at Muckety.com. [7]
