Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger, III

Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger, III, 57, was the pilot of US Airways flight 1549, which made an emergency landing in the Hudson River on the afternoon of January 15, 2009. The plane's engines failed within a minute of takeoff, but Sullenberger quickly made an announcement of the emergency landing and skillfully landed the plane in the river.[1]

Sullenberger was a former member of the United States Air Force, for which he was a fighter pilot. He has flown for US Airways for more than 20 years, and has been a pilot for more than 40 years.[2]

Sullenberger is the founder of Safety Reliability Methods, Inc. (SRM), a company which applies the latest advances in safety and high performance and high reliability processes to organizations in a variety of fields.[3]
