Christian democracy is a religious and political ideology that believes democracy, human rights, and the Christian faith are mutually compatible. Christian democrats tend to be centre to centre-left on the political spectrum, they are related to Christian socialists but are more moderate. Christian democrats see Jesus as the liberator of the poor and the oppressed and their political beliefs reflect those of their religion.
Prominent Christian Democrats
- Tommy Douglas - Former leader of the NDP, minister, and father of Universal Healthcare in Canada
- Jimmy Carter - Ex-president and now human rights activist (although some of his policies during his presidency such as support for the Dictator Suharto were neither moral nor Christian).
