College math is generally divided into three fields:

- analysis: real and complex, and calculus

- algebra: linear algebra and group theory. Abstract may be called abstract algebra.

Advanced programs also include differential geometry.

Since about 1900, set theory has replaced number theory as the single largest foundation of most mathematical work.
