The Dallas Mavericks is a professional basketball team based out of Dallas, Texas that has been a member of the NBA since its founding in 1980. The team is owned by outspoken billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban, who has been fined by the NBA multiple times for his criticisms of game officials. The team won the Western Conference during the 2005-2006 season, and lost to the Miami Heat in the NBA finals. During the 2006-2007 season, the team posted a 67-15 regular season record, which was one of the best records in NBA history.
