Daniel Boone (1735-1820) was an American pioneer and explorer, who was also involved in the American Revolution. He became a folk hero for his adventures in the wild, and his work in exploring Kentucky, Indiana, and Missouri.

A humble man, he once said, "Many heroic actions and chivalrous adventures are related of me which exist only in the regions of fancy. With me the world has taken great liberties, and yet I have been but a common man."
