Rossetti's self-portrait

Dante Gabriel Rossetti was an English painter and poet, born in 1828. He is known for paintings of women, such as La Ghirlandata and Beata Beatrix, as well as some religious paintings like Girlhood of Mary and Ecce Ancilla Domini. However, the reverence of these religious paintings is questionable - they depict Mary as a gloomy teenage girl.

His most famous quote is:

The worst moment for the atheist is when he is really thankful and has nobody to thank.[1]
