Debate: Can Christianity exist without Apostles and Prophets?
Technically, it could. but God chose to use them to keep his people (the Hebrews, Christians) informed. Without Prophets, the Jews would have the incomplete scriptures only, or perhaps an angelic messenger, to rely on for knowledge of God's will.
An apostle means a witness, in this case of the Gospel. You need someone who personally saw Jesus Christ and all his works, firsthand. Without apostles, our understanding of Jesus would come from mere rumors and fragments of stories. So Christianity needs the apostles, the eye-witnesses, to be credible. It could exist without them, but not very well. --Ṣ₮ёVeN 10:12, 6 October 2008 (EDT)
