Entitlements are benefits which are legislated by the government[1].

Examples include benefits payable to children who live below the poverty line, the disabled, veterans, and wealthy Americans who receive tax breaks.

Entitlements are a major reason why the budget deficit is so large. Whilst Veterans, the disabled and those below the poverty line need these entitlements, there are a large number of middle to high income recipients.
