Which passages of the Bible are most likely to convert when read by someone who has lost his or her faith? Put another way, suppose you have the opportunity to read one passage to a depressed, faithless individual. Which would you read or describe?

Possibilities include, in order of likelihood:

  1. Psalm 23
  2. The Prodigal Son
  3. John 1:1
  4. The raising of Lazarus
  5. Passages relating to Hell
  6. Faith moving mountains (Matthew 17:20)
  7. The Good Thief
  8. Doubting Thomas
  9. The beginning of Genesis
  10. The description of the birth of Christ at the beginning of the Gospel of Luke
  11. The Passion
  12. Stranger on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35)
  13. 1 Matthew 7:7
  14. Kings 19:11-12
  15. Isaiah Chapter 53
