Frederik Willem de Klerk, or F.W. as most came to call him, was the last apartheid era President of South Africa. He held office from September 1989 to May 1994, oversaw the first omni-racial national elections, and was succeeded in office by Nelson Mandela, with whom he shared the Nobel Peace Prize awarded in 1993.
