Fiction is an invented or feigned narrative (an imaginative form of narrative). Fiction is one of the two most general categories in the hierarchy in which books are classified, the other being non-fiction — a composition that its authors believe to be truthful.
Fiction differs from lying because the listener knows the story isn't true.
