George LeMieux (born May 21, 1969) is the junior United State Senator from Florida, after being appointed by Governor Charlie Crist to serve the remainder of retairing Senator Mel Martinez's term. [1] LeMieux was an attorney for Gunster Yoakley & Stewart law firm and a Republican political consultant from Florida. He was called "the maestro" of Charlie Crist's victorious campaign for governor in 2006 [2]. Previously he served the appointed position of Deputy Attorney General for the state of Florida and Chief of Staff to Charlie Crist. LeMieux is a self-described "Charlie Crist Republican."

Political Views

On abortion, George LeMieux is pro-life except in cases of incest or "parental abuse" involving a minor. Although he opposes same sex marriage he supports gay adoption and same-sex benefits. On tax reform he has stated that "income taxes unfairly penalize hard work, and a progressive tax system deters hard work. As for sales-tax rebates for stadiums and arenas, I would prioritize our tax money in other ways." [3] Upon his Senate announcement LeMieux said he was worried about the national deficit and was a believer in "limited government." Additionally, LeMieux said he was "concerned" about current proposals for the government option in health care, although stopped short of opposing it. [4]

LeMieux opposes off-shore drilling in Florida's coast.
