Handel's Messiah is an oratorio encompassing key Bible phrases in the life of Jesus Christ. It is sung by a full chorus with orchestra and soloists.

One of the key choruses in the Messiah is the Hallelujah chorus, which occurs at the end of the second part of the oratorio. It has become a tradition for audiences to stand during this act, originating to when King George II stood at a performance in the 1700s.
