Honshu (Honshū, 本州) is the largest island in Japan, with a land area of 231,000 square kilometers.[1] Most of Japan's major cities are there, including Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka, Nagoya and Kyoto. Ise (The Holy City) and Nara, an ancient capital of Japan are located also in this main island.
The other three principal Japanese islands are Hokkaido, Kyushu and Shikoku.
