Howard Fast (1914 - 2003) was a pro-Communist writer who was cited for contempt of Congress in 1946 for refusing to produce records of the Communist-dominated front organization cited on the Attorney General's list of subversive organizations known as the Joint Anti-Fascist Refugee Committee. He was convicted in Federal Court on July 16, 1947, and jailed following a Supreme Court decision upholding his conviction.
