Iowa State University is a public university located in Ames, Iowa. It was founded in 1856, and was designated as a land grant college under the Morrill Act signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862. The team is athletically affiliated with the Big 12 Conference, and its mascot is the Cyclone.

Controversy

In 2007, the university was criticized for denying tenure of astronomy professor Guillermo Gonzalez, allegedly because of his acceptance of intelligent design.
