James IV (March 17, 1473 – September 9, 1513) was King of Scotland from June 11, 1488 until September 9, 1513. He was a popular king and often considered the greatest of the Stuart monarchs (1371-1714), he was however defeated at the Battle of Flodden in September 1513 leaving his young son James V as his successor.
Killing of James III
On June 11, 1488, James' Father James III was fighting with royalists against the rebels in the Battle of Sauchieburn, his father was killed and he was made King James IV.
