John Elway (born June 28, 1960 in Port Angeles, Washington) is a former American football conference quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Denver Broncos from 1983 through 1998. He holds many college and some professional records, was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, and is the only quarterback to have started in five Super Bowls. He entered the NFL in 1983, when he was drafted with the first overall pick of the NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts. After refusing to play or sign a contract with the Colts and indicating that might try to play professional baseball instead, he was traded to the Denver Broncos.
After losing in his first three Super Bowl appearances, John came back strong to win his last two in back to back years (1997 & 1998) and then retired. The following year without John at the helm, his team failed to make it to the playoffs.
