Jon Runyan (born November 27, 1973) is a former all-pro lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles who is the Republican U.S. Representative for Congress in the New Jersey 3rd congressional district, defeating incumbent Democrat John Adler in 2010. Jon Runyan was a two-time Michigan state shotput champion and an all-star basketball recruit of Michigan State. His professional football career included playing for the Houston Oilers, Tennessee Titans, Philadelphia Eagles and the San Diego Chargers. Also, he was a broadcast announcer for the 2007 NFL Europa season. Runyan has three children with his wife Loretta.
A poll released shows Runyan leading New Jersey Democrat Rep. John Adler 48 percent to 43 percent among likely voters. Real Clear Politics has the seat leaning Republican. He is facing a third-party challenge from Peter DeStefano. DeStefano calls himself the Tea Party candidate but nobody in the Tea Party Movement recognizes him. It has been speculated that DeStefano is a Democrat endorsed candidate running to siphon votes from Runyan.
Runyan defeated Adler by a 51%-47% margin.
