Mickey Mantle (October 20, 1931- August 13, 1995) was a famous baseball player, born in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. In 1951 he replaced Joe DiMaggio on the New York Yankees, and received many awards during his career including: three MVPs, the Triple Crown, and the induction into the Hall of Fame. He was an alcoholic and contracted liver cancer which later killed him. There was a controversy about how quickly he received an organ while on the supposedly neutral transplant list. However, the issue quickly died down because of details regarding organ recipients and ultimately because of his cancer.
