Modus operandi (M.O.)

Police detectives and insurance fraud investigators find that each criminal frequently follows a pattern. A burglar may always enter by a second-story rear window or steal a bicycle attached loosely to a parking meter. Their pattern is their modus operandi, a Latin term.
