The muezzin in Islam is a person who leads the call for five daily prayers (salat) and the call for Friday service (adhan). The muezzin faces in each direction as he shouts out the adhan.

Use of the muezzin has existed since Muhammad, and perhaps predates Islam[Citation Needed].
