The new owner of the team is an Oklahoma City businessman, Clay Bennett. The move was facilitated by the city of Seattle refusing to build a new arena with taxpayer money. The Supersonics won the NBA championship once, in 1979. The team as of 2008 is known as the Oklahoma City Thunder. They lost the 2012 NBA Championships to the Miami Heat.
