Queensberry Rules are the standard rules of boxing, drafted in 1867 under the name and patronage of the Marquess of Queensberry. They formed the basis of modern glove fighting as distinct from earlier bare-knuckle contests. The rules required the wearing of gloves and rounds of three minutes' duration interspersed with a minute of rest as well as providing rules for not hitting a man when he is down.  They also prohibited any form of wrestling.
