The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 midnight movie, known for showing campy depictions of homosexuality and transexuality. The film stars Tim Curry, Susan Surandon, and Barry Bostwick. The film is a parody of cheaply made B-Movies during the 1950's. It is based upon The Rocky Horror Show.

Release

The film was released by 20th Century Fox in 1975. The film was not a success. Then, Fox tried to put it with Phantom of the Paradise and released on collage campuses. It was still not a big hit. However, it started to be released as a midnight movie, with people absolutly loving the film. People would go and "act out" the film. To this day, the film has never been pulled from theaters, and it is still showed as a midnight movie. It is the longest running movie today.

The film was, and still is, usually panned by critics. Most critics did not like the oversexual nature of the film, as well as the lack of a definite plot.

In 2005, the Library of Congress selected it for national preservation because the film was "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

Cast

Home Video

Some parts of the film were released on Super-8 video. The film was released on video in 1994. The film is currently available. The 25th Annaversary Edition contains both the UK Version and the US version. In the UK version, it contains the song Superheros, which was edited out in the US version because it was thought of as being too depressing.
