Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) is a theory promoted by governmental child protective services and pediatric neurologists that thousands of children die each year by being shaken to death by parents, other relatives, daycare workers, babysitters and other caregivers. This theory has resulted in trials and convictions of caregivers of murder or manslaughter.

Increasingly independent medical experts have doubted or even completely rejected the theory when there is a lack of outward physical signs of abuse.[1] SBS has never been observed by a credible eyewitness, and most "confessions" are simply statements by parents or others that they "shook" a baby while caring for it.
