The slogan "Global warming is real" is usually an assertion that the earth's atmosphere has heated up significantly due to human activity. It combines any of three scientific facts with an entirely unscientific assumption. The facts are that the atmosphere has warmed measurably since 1850, or since 1900, or since 1950. The assumption is that most of this warming in any of these periods is due to human activity.

One effect of the slogan is to imply that anyone who disagrees with your assumption also disagrees with the facts. ("What, are you denying the current warming trend?") This is a classic logical fallacy, but one which even well-educated media professionals tend to accept.
