Sue Lowden is the former chairman of the Nevada Republican Party and represented Clark County in the Nevada Senate from 1993 through 1997, when she defeated the State Senate Majority Leader, Jack Vergiels. She was immediately elected Senate Majority Whip and chairman of the Senate Taxation Committee. Lowden has announced that she is running against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the 2010 election.

"He was independent like Nevada and I think that's he's become a liberal, Nancy Pelosi Washingtonian and that he's forgotten who he represents back here. We voted for him, many people voted for him to represent Nevada values and I think he's forgotten about us here and he's become more liberal." [1]

In 1973 Sue Lowden was Miss New Jersey, and finished second in the Miss America contest. [2] She moved to Nevada in the 1970's and became a reporter and anchor at KLAS Channel 8 News.
