(a) Conservatives wanted to redistribute wealth? (b) are "radicals" and "reds" the samething? Rob Smith 21:45, 31 August 2009 (EDT)
- conservatives approved the current distribution of wealth INSIDE rural America and did not try to change it, the radicals did want to change it and empower the croppers. "Conservatives" (which is what they called themselves but there are problems with the term, hence the quotes) in the AAA wanted the farmers to get "parity" with urban dwellers They wanted more $ with a ceiling. Outside the AAA the conservative Farm Bureau wanted more $$ with no ceiling. A conservative leader like Taft opposed acreage controls but did favor moderate subsidies to farmers (but not as much as the Farm Bureau wanted; Paterson, Taft p 261)
For the 1933-35 period I believe the terms 'radicals' and 'reds' were synonyms.RJJensen 05:56, 1 September 2009 (EDT)
