The plan is to have a complete article exploring the pros and cons about it, in this suggested layout:

Introductory paragraph
Explanation of the requirement in Article II Section 1 of the Constitution, and what the differences are between native-born, natural-born, and naturalized citizens;
History of the issue as used during the 2008 campaign, including differences between Obama and McCain regarding these documents and places of birth;
Detailed treatment of the Hawaiian short-form copy released by Obama's staff, including allegations that it may be a forgery;
Detailed treatment of the recently-released Kenya certificate; including allegations that it may also be a forgery;
The refusal of Obama to settle the matter by the release of the long-form document from Hawaii.

  • During the 2008 presidential campaign, GOP nominee Sen. John McCain quickly released his birth certificate when liberal bloggers raised questions about his eligibility to be president. McCain was born at a military hospital in Panama.
  • Obama likewise could put the matter to rest by releasing his actual birth certificate, which would show, among other things, the place of his birth and the doctor who performed the birth procedure. This information is not provided on the Certification of Live Birth.

As it stands, Obama is the only president in history whose birthplace (hospital, home, clinic) is unknown to the public – a fact that would be stated on the actual birth certificate. Interestingly, his family has mentioned two different hospitals in Hawaii as the place of birth.

Washington Post story

This source [1] highlights the problem against McCain in 2008. It should also be noted that several presidential candidates also had simialr problems; one was Barry Goldwater, who was born when Arizona was still a U.S. territory. Karajou 12:55, 5 August 2009 (EDT)
