Texas A&M University is a university in the University System of Texas. Located in College Station, Texas, it was established in 1871 as a military school. Texas A&M began life as an agricultural, vocational school, but has become a respected university. A&M has many rich traditions, and also is one of very few moderate, or possibly even conservative, institutions of higher learning, owing to a large-scale educational bias against conservatives. The Princeton Review ranked it as the most conservative school in the nation in 2009. Texas A&M produces more US officers than any other university, aside from the military academies.

Texas A&M has expanded into a system of campuses. For example, the former West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas merged into the A&M system to become the "West Texas A&M University".

Athletics

The school's athletic programs are associated with the NCAA's Big 12 Conference, and its mascot is the Aggie.
