The Amistad (La Amistad,Spanish:friendship) was a two-masted schooner that was built in Spain in the 19th Century. It was owned by a Spaniard living in Cuba. The ship was part of the slave trade and used to transport African slaves to the Caribbean. A mutiny of the African slaves happened in July 1839. The ship was captured by the US ship USS Washington of Long Island.
