About me

Bert Schlossberg

The son-in-law of one of the passengers of the ill-fated Korean Airlines Flight 007, shot down by a Russian air-to-air missile in 1983, Bert Schlossberg has dedicated the past twenty years to researching the question of passenger rescue and survival, as well as Soviet resistance to disclosure connected with this mysterious flight.

Due to his close association with the Israeli Research Center for Prisons, Psychprisons, and Forced Labor Concentration Camps of the USSR, and its director Avraham Shifrin, Schlossberg was able to follow closely the revelations about KAL 007, its landing and the survival of those aboard. The flow of this information began with the arrival in Israel of former Soviet military personnel, newly become citizens of Israel. It continued through the work of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations under the direction of ranking Minority Member, Senator Jesse Helms who pressured (successfully) Boris Yeltsin to release to the International Civil Aviation Organization, KAL 007’s “Black Boxes.”

Mr. Schlossberg is the International Director of the International Committee for the Rescue of KAL 007 Survivors, Inc. [1]

He was educated at Brooklyn College receiving the Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy in 1961, and at New York University receiving the Master’s Degree in Near Eastern Studies in 1969. He has taught at the University level in the fields of Near Eastern Language (Hebrew and Aramaic) and Literature as well as in the areas of Old and New Testaments at Sarah Lawrence and C.W. Post Colleges in New York, and at the Adult Education level with the Scarsdale (N.Y.) Adult Education program. Mr. Schlossberg has also taught at Israel College of the Bible and the Hebrew University, both in Jerusalem, Israel, and at Tel-Aviv University, in Tel-Aviv - in Israel.

Bert Schlossberg, under his Aramaic name Mar Uzziah bar Evyon is Metropolitan Bishop for the Evangelical Apostolic Church of North America (Syro-Chaldean)
