The "yin" and "yang" are forces in Taoist beliefs that it seeks to unite or harmonize. The diagram of the yin and yang is below. Yin is the dark portion, representing inactive, negative, peaceful, or femaleness. Yang is the light portion, representing active, positive, sometimes violent maleness.
