Zell Miller is a former Democratic United States Senator from Georgia. An outspoken conservative, he previously served as Lieutenant Governor and then Governor of the state of that state. He served one term in the Senate, to which he was first appointed in 2000 to fill a vacant seat and then easily won a special election later that same year. A Conservative Democrat, he became increasingly alienated from the Democratic Party's left-wing activist base during his term in the Senate. He resisted calls to change parties though, saying he was "born a Democrat and will die a Democrat". He then wrote the book A National Party No More about his differences with the modern Democratic Party leadership.
