Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (film, 1931) is a masterpiece Hollywood portrayal of the famous novella by Robert Louis Stevenson.

This movie is considered an exquisite classic to this day, garnering 91% on the Tomatometer at Rotten Tomatoes.[1] At the 1932 Academy Awards, this film won the Oscar for best actor in a tie, and two prestigious nominations for Best Writing, Adaptation (Percy Heath and Samuel Hoffenstein) and for Best Cinematography Karl Struss).

This film was successful at the box office despite its expensive budget. A remake a decades later was a failure, and disastrously destroyed nearly all of the existing copies of this splendid original in order to thwart competition.
