A Latin cross with two beams instead of one is known as the cross of Lorraine; in the ancient versions, both horizontal bars were of equal length, been the upper beam as close to the top as the lower beam to the bottom of the cross.

The Cross of Lorraine is part of the heraldic arms of Lorraine, France; originally it was a symbol of Joan of Arc.
